EPS Epoxy Surfboard Ding Repair Step 7 "Hot Coating", Step 8 "Sanding" and Step 9 "Polishing"

Step 7: "Hot Coating" is a simple procedure using mixed epoxy resin and a brush. Simply brush the resin over the laminating cloth and slightly overlap the edges. Use just enough resin to thinly cover the area without leaving excess puddles around the ding. Once the epoxy resin begins to harden you can clean up any puddles or reaming threads with a razor blade.

Step 8: "Sanding". If you did a clean job with the laminating and hot coating then sanding is relatively easy. Be carefully when sanding the tail edge and areas around the ding so you don't sand through the cloth. I sanded in two stages first with 100 grit to flatted out the repair and blend with the surrounding area. I don't like to try to get it too perfect because it's too easy to sand through the cloth. Next, use some 220 grit to get rid of the scratches from the 100 grit.

Step 9: "Polishing". I finished it up with some automotive polishing compound so that it blends nicely with the rest of the board.
