AST Dew Tour Wraps Up A Successful Third Stop With The Vans Invitiational In Portland

Vans Invitational event winners included: Greg Lutzka Skate Park and Shaun White Vert.

Shaun Whites Run at the Dew Tour Portland Oregon

The four-day competition drew 53,592 fans. The five-event AST Dew Tour that features skateboarding (SKB), BMX and freestyle motocross (FMX) will next visit Salt Lake City with the Toyota Challenge September 20-23 followed by the finale in Orlando in October.

Greg Lutzka won the Skateboard Park event for his first AST Dew Tour victory of the season. Lutzka overtook two-time Dew Tour Champion Ryan Sheckler by less than one point in the finals of the Vans Invitational Skateboard Park competition.

Lutzka, 22, of Milwaukee, Wisc, went trick for trick with Sheckler throughout the competition, earning an average score of 90.67 to take the win. Sheckler followed close behind with an average score of 89.83. Fabrizio Santos of Brazil finished third with 86.17 points.

"I'm pumped right now, I just want to keep this up for the rest of the season,” said Lutzka, who won the Vans Invitational in 2006. “I'm two-for-two in Portland, now it's on to Salt Lake City next and then Orlando. I need to keep it up."

“Everyone skated really well today, and Ryan had some great runs,” Lutzka said. “The second jam format was where I really came out with the win."

Olympic snowboarding champion Shaun White remained perfect in AST Dew Tour competition with a Skateboard Vert victory.

The 20-year-old White fell during the end of his first run and was fifth at the end of the first round, but rebounded in the second run to finish at 91.25. Canada's Pierre-Luc Gagnon was second at 89.00, followed by Brazil's Bob Burnquist at 87.75.

“I was just watching everyone else and after my first run, I just focused and landed it,” said White, from Carlsbad, Calif. “I didn’t want to pull another X Games and wait to the last minute (to pull out the win).”

White, who won X Games Gold earlier this month, has competed the last two seasons on the AST Dew Tour, but this is the first time he has won three consecutive events. He is the only athlete on the AST Dew Tour to go undefeated so far this season.

“It was hard for me with all the snowboarding stuff last year, but I made a promise to myself that I would really focus on my skateboarding and go for it (Dew Cup) this year,” White added.

Pierre-Luc Gagnon of Montreal, Canada finished in second with 89.00 and Bob Burnquist of Rio de Janiero, Brazil was third at 87.75.
