VANS SLAM CITY JAM KICKS OFF THE VANS TRIPLE CROWN T OF SKATEBOARDING 2001 SEASON

NORTH AMERICA'S LARGEST SKATEBOARD CONTEST RETURNS TO VANCOUVER'S PACIFIC COLISEUM MAY 4-6

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (April 3, 2001) - Vans Slam City Jam, the largest skateboarding contest in North America, will kick off the 2001 Vans Triple CrownT of Skateboarding May 4-6 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

For the first time in the history of Slam City Jam, the event will be broadcast to millions of viewers by NBC Sports as part of their ongoing Vans Triple CrownT Series coverage.

Over 200 of the world's top professional skateboarders will compete on a massive "street" course and "vert ramp" for international recognition and a prize purse of over $70,000 (Cdn).

Slam City Jam has seen enormous growth in the last few years as has skateboarding's popularity. This year's televised event, scheduled for broadcast on May 19, promises to bring awareness and recognition for the sport to an even greater level.

Vans Slam City Jam is more than a pro skateboard contest, it's a 3-day celebration of skateboard culture, encompassing elements of music, style, art and media, and of course - skating!

This year's highlights include:

Pro Street and Vert Contests Girls' and "Best Trick" Contests

"Bowl Sessions" in the new Hastings Skatepark, adjacent to the Coliseum Invitational Amateur Jam on Saturday evening

Jurassic 5 and Suicidal Tendencies headlining the SoundStage, plus more bands & DJs!

Eternal Public SkatePark

Art Gallery showcasing the work of celebrated artists in the skate community

A number of non-profit organizations will participate at this year's event
