King of Wake World Cup2007 King of Wake Features Largest Cash Bonus in Professional Wakeboarding History

Winter Park, Florida – $25,000! That’s what the winner of the King of Wake World Cup will take home in 2007. The payout, the biggest cash bonus in the history of the sport, was announced today by series organizer World Sports & Marketing. The dash for the $25,000 begins next week in Orlando, Florida with Wake Games, the first of 10 stops to deine the world’s number one rider.

The King of Wake is the ultimate wakeboarding series as it brings together the sport’s top events and series under one ultimate season-long points chase. The 2007 competition for the title and the cash include the five stops on the Pro Wakeboard Tour, plus the Wake Games, the WWA National Championships, and the WWA World Championships.

For the first time, the series will have a definite international feel to it with Canada hosting two events — a stop on the Pro Wakeboard Tour in Kelowna, British Columbia, and the newest event to join the World Cup, Wakefest Alberta. The final event of the series, the Pro Am Championships, will take place in Cancun, Mexico. This is the first time a major wakeboarding event will be held in that country.

The “Chase for the Crown” format will be back in 2007. The “Chase” similar to NASCAR’s point system involves narrowing the rider field eligible for the title to the top 10 midway through the season. Those top 10 riders will compete in five-stop “playoff” beginning with the Kelowna stop. This format was enthusiastically accepted by athletes, fans and media as it made its debut in 2006.

Tino Santori won the King of Wake in 2006, capturing the title at the final stop in Marathon, Florida. Rusty Malinoski and Andrew Adkison finished second and third, respectively. The 2007 series promises to be the most exciting season yet.
